![]() Actually it makes all the sense in the world to just ask them to let you keep the cast - maybe you will need it in a few years. The reason the custom mouthguards cost so much is because they have to make a cast of your teeth, which they then dispose of. But he did show me where he thinks there are signs of teeth grinding, so I’ll take him at his word. He said the most likely reasons for teeth grinding are snoring/OSA, which to my knowledge I’ve never experienced, and stress, which I also don’t think is really a major issue. If I still had the one they made when they created the whitening trays a couple of years ago, maybe this could all be done for a tiny fraction of the cost? I try not to get into "convincing" people they need anything. I think a very reasonable course is to ask them to explain why, in some detail, they believe you need a night guard? Do they have an intraoral camera to show you the evidence of wear facets/attrition? In the end, the OP either trusts the dentist or they don't. ![]() Many of these comments are based on assumptions that aren't quite accurate. Sound is also not a good indicator - my wife who is a light sleeper has hit me for snoring many times but has never made any comments about me making noise from grinding. Other than the significant attrition on my teeth, I would otherwise have absolutely no idea I was doing it. My canines are as flat as my incisors and I have pronounced wear facets on my molars and I never wake with pain and I've been grinding my entire teenage and adult life. Many people will experience jaw pain and make significant noise grinding their teeth but for many, this is not the case. ![]() You're an adult - make a decision and life moves on!
